  2. Diagnosis • Empysema-COPD • Abnormal, permanent enlargement of air spaces distal to the terminal bronchioles, due to destruction of aveolar wall. • Without fibrosis • Interstitial Lung Disease • Disease of Lung Interstitium • Involves fibrosis and scarring

Emphysema • Centroacinar- affects respiratory bronchioles in center of acinus • smoking • Panacinar- affects entire acinus • Alpha-1 antitrypsin • Paraseptal- alveolar ducts and sac at periphery of lung • Incidental in young adults • Part of centroacinar • Irregular- scarring and no relation to acinus • Bullous- any type
