  2. accede • Verb • To yield to; to agree to. • To enter upon an office or dignity. • Synonyms: agree, consent, comply • The meek child acceded to the punishment her parents gave her.

  3. agenda • Noun • A list or program of things to be done or acted upon. • Synonym: schedule • Today’s agenda includes workshops about violence prevention and school safety.

  4. anarchy • Noun • Absence of government authority; general political and social disorder. • Synonyms: disorder, chaos, lawlessness • After the earthquake, Haitians lived in anarchy since the country was in a state of chaos.

  5. articulate • Verb and Adjective • (verb) To pronounce distinctly; to express well in words. • (adjective) Expressed clearly and forcefully; able to employ language easily and fluently. • Synonyms: fluent, clarify • Please be articulate while delivering your speech so everyone can understand you.

  6. augur • Noun and Verb • (noun) Someone who can forecast the future by spotting various signs or indications of what is to come. • (verb) To predict or foretell through signs; to point to or be an omen of. • Synonyms: prophesy, divine, foreshadow, soothsayer, seer • Romeo and Juliet should have visited an augur who would be able to predict their misfortune.

  7. bicker • Verb • To engage in petty quarreling. • Synonyms: squabble, haggle • My parents often bicker about which brand of ice cream to buy at the grocery store which causes them to buy both since they cannot disagree.

  8. brash • Adjective • Overly bold, hasty, and thoughtless. • Synonyms: rash, reckless, saucy, shameless, tactless • After making brash and harmful statements about our government in public, the man was harassed for his outlandish behavior.

  9. cantankerous • Adjective • Foul-tempered and quarrelsome. • Synonyms: irritable, testy, crabby, grouchy, cranky • My younger brother’s cantankerous attitude often causes him to be miserable and ready to provoke a fight.

  10. circumspect • Adjective • Cautious or prudent, especially in regard to the consequences of actions or statements; tactful. • Synonyms: careful, watchful, guarded, wary • When traveling through strange towns, it is beneficial to have a circumspect attitude and be careful of your surroundings.

  11. condone • Verb • To overlook or disregard an offense, thereby implying forgiveness, acceptance, or possibly approval of it. • Synonyms: ignore, accept, tolerate • The disciplinarians will not condone bullying and harassment among students and will consequently assign a punishment.
