  3. Verbo: Estar • To talk about conditions: Health, taste, current appearance Estoy muy cansado. El pastre está rico. Estás muy guapo hoy. • To indicate location of people and things. ¿Dónde están las papas? Estamos en la misma clase. Está a la derecha. • To form the progressive, with the –ndo form of verbs. ¿Qué están haciendo? Estamos cantando una nueva canción? Abuelita está leyendo el periódico.

  4. Stem-Changing Verbs • In –ar, -er, -ir ending verbs, the final vowel of the stem changes from eto ieand fromo to ue and e to i in all the forms except the nosotros form.

  5. Stem Changing Verbs e-ie e-ie Recomendar (to recommend)

  6. Stem changing Verb o-ue o- ue Poder (to be able, can)

  7. Stem-Changing Verbs e-i • This final vowel of the stem changes from e i in all forms except the ‘nosotros’ form.

  8. ¡Ojo! • Note that in many dictionaries and in the Spanish – English glossary, stem changing verbs are listed with their vowel change in parentheses: Recomendar (ie) / poder (ue)
