  5. Our Strategic Investments • A Better Start - £165 million over 8-10 years. • Talent Match - £100 million over 8 years. • Multiple and Complex Needs- £100 million over 8 years. • Older People – £70 million over 6 years.

  6. A Better Start: The Journey Spring 2014: We will award 3-5 grants, worth £30 - £50 million over 10 years . Communication and Language Summer 2013: 15 VCS-led partnerships awarded £5 million to develop evidence-based plans Spring 2013: 40 LAs invited to submit a detailed bid Social and Emotional Development January 2013: LAs invited to express an interest in the programme Nutrition October 2012: Launch of our £165 million initiative

  7. What next for young people? The evidence • One in 10 young people – so three in every classroom – has a clinically diagnosable mental health problem (Young Minds). • Rates of mental health problems increase during adolescence. Amongteenagers, rates of depression and anxiety have increased by 70% in the past 25 years. • Half of those with a lifetime mental illness first experience symptoms by the age of 14. • Only 25% of young people needing treatment actually receive it.
