New law trials 2012/2013: • Law 9: Conversions-90 seconds from try scored • Law 12: Knock on or throw forward-into touch-choice • Law 16: Ruck-5 seconds to play from “use it” call • Law 19: Touch and lineout-where quick throw can be taken • Law 20: Scrum-Crouch-Touch-Set sequence • Law21: LO-Penalty/free kicks-LO alternative ~ Referee Department

  2. Law 9: Method of scoring-Conversion kick • Kicker MUST take kick within 90 seconds of try being scored • Even if ball rolls over and has to be replaced ~ Referee Department

  3. Law 12: Knock on/Throw forward • Ball goes into touch from a KO or throw forward-non offending team choice: • LO where ball crossed or • Scrum at place of KO • Quick throw allowed ~ Referee Department

  4. Law 16: Ruck • Ball clearly won at ruck • Available to be played • Referee calls “use it” • Ball to be played in 5 secs • If not-turnover scrum ~ Referee Department

  5. Law 19: Touch/lineout-Quick throw • Player MAY be anywhere outside field of play between: • Line of touch and • Players goal line • Previously between: • Place where ball went into touch and • Players goal line ~ Referee Department

  6. Law 20: Scrum-new engagement sequence • New referee calls as follows: • Crouch • Touch(withdraw arms) • Set • 3 calls-3 actions ~ Referee Department

  7. Law 21: Penalty/Free kick • Team awarded a PK/FK at a LO MAY choose a further LO with their throw in • This is in addition to the existing scrum option ~ Referee Department

  8. Other areas: • Foul play-continued firm line on: • Spear/Drop/Tip tackles • No arm tackles/shoulder charges • Sledging of opposition players • Players demanding yellow cards • Lineout-taking out of lifters/support players • Blocking of kick chasers ~ Referee Department

  9. BIG 5 Priorities: Tackle: Maintain a contest/sealing off and side entry Scrum: New engagement sequence and binding Offside at breakdown: Space to play Offside from kicks: Space to play Maul: Contest at commencement and legal defence ~ Referee Department
