  3. Process Art When we think about art instruction, we often think about the outcome - “ But what is truly important is what the child learns as she creates her art. What is learned in the "process." “What a nice picture you made.”.

  10. Things that support children when they are doing art.. Its important to NOTjust put materials out. This often leads to children becoming disinterested quickly and a BIG mess. INSTEAD… Teach children directly how to use the art tools and supplies. They need time to practice with the materials while learning new skills. ~TiyiSchippers
  11. Avoid competition Support the child when they want to “link’ their art to other forms of play or in other centers Limit your interference to when necessary, its their art- not yours
  12. Learn to use encouragement versus praise by using terms like “tell me”, “I noticed” , “I’m wondering…” This shows interest without putting a value on the art or its process Encourage child to keep on working…. You both might be surprised at the results and what can be learned in the process.

  14. Support all art ( being different or unique)
  15. If at all possible, do not impose short time limits on a project
  16. Time for trash ( aka recycling) to Treasure! Recycling materials can be used ( and should be used) often. Use the materials to make a project based on one of these themes, Bugs Spring Flowers Transportation Building/Structure Or Chose your own. Remember - be creative and have fun!

When children are allowed and encouraged to explore, create and develop their own original ideas they discover their own independence, as well as the mysteries of combinations, the joy of exploration, the delight of creating and the frustration of challenges – all important pieces in the puzzle of learning.   21. Artists on Display Display children's works of art inside plastic sheet protectors. Attach to the fridge with magnetic strips. Change artwork on display by slipping it in and out of the clear pocket for all to enjoy. Prepare and Process • Stick four squares of thin magnetic strips on the back corners of a sheet protector. The magnetic material comes with a peel-off backing and can be cut to any size. • Press the sheet protector to the fridge, file cabinet, or any metal surface. It should hold firm • Slide an artwork into the sheet protector to view. • Change artwork at any time. Variations • Cover the fridge with many display sheets. • Create artwork on paper that fits inside a clear plastic CD case or a videotape box, which will be a natural display box when the art is slipped inside. Materials • magnetic strips or sheets with peel-off backing (at hobby or discount stores) • clear plastic sheet protector (office supply or discount stores) • scissors • refrigerator door • children's artwork
  22. Party Bracelet It only takes paper-towel tubes, buttons, feathers, and ribbon to create these glitzy bangles, ideal for young girls. Slice the tubes into rings with a utility knife and give to kids to decorate. When they're done, snip the rings open for wearing and glue while they're still intact.
