    1. The Deciduous Forest

    2. Introduction Areas that have certain types of organisms are biomes The Deciduous Forest is a biome that is in huge trouble. The Deciduous Forest is also called the Temperate Deciduous Forest

    3. Location The deciduous forest is located in eastern North America, Northern Asia, Western and Central Europe

    4. Climate Well defined seasons Temperature –30 to 30 degrees Celsius 75-150cm of precipitation Growing season is 140-200 days long

    5. Soil Fertile Enriched with decaying litter (not garbage) Well suited for plant growth

    6. Foliage Some sunlight gets to the ground which is absorbed by many types of shrubs, ferns, ivies, ect.

    7. Trees Many trees are located in the deciduous forest such as: oak, maple, holly, birch, ect. Canopy is moderately dense During winter the trees lose their leaves, which is a major factor of a deciduous forest

    8. Birds Many migrating birds make their home in deciduous forests Including: owls, robins, swallows, cardinals, ect. Only Ľ stay in the forest during the winter

    9. Mammals A lot of resident mammals hibernate during the winters Resident mammals include: deer, wolves, foxes, squirrels, bears, ect.

Endangered Species The Black Forest in Europe is in the worst trouble of all the Deciduous Forests in the world After extensive logging, this forest has lost almost all of its trees Unfortunately, these forests are the habitats of the animals that live in the Deciduous forest Because of this, some of the trees and animals in Europe and other areas areas of the world are endangered

    11. Destruction Many deciduous forest are being cut down for lumber Many are destroyed for farming space Hardwoods are being rapidly destroyed by logging

    12. What to do? Pass laws that force companies to plant trees after they are cut down Prevent forest fires Create nature preserves A tax deduction for planting a tree Pass laws to protect certain animals
