Advice from the Prophet (pbuh) • Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I requested the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) to teach me a supplication which I could recite in my Salat (prayer). Thereupon he said: • اللهمّ إني ظلمت نفسي .... • [Bukhari and Muslim]
Advice from the Prophet (pbuh) Look at the status of Abu Bakr (R), the noblest man of this Ummah and then look at the wordings of this Du’aa. How humbly and sincerely should we be, when we recite this Du’aa.
Indeed I إِنِّي
*293 + نُفُوس، أَنْفُس Broken plural جمع مكسّر
ظُلْمًا كَثِيرًا *74 ManyExcessive wrongs
To add emphasis: Verb is followed by its Noun Verb Noun ظَلَمْتُ ظُلْمًا I have wronged wrong = wronged too much
Practice with imagination, feelings and prayer • [I] have wronged • Indeed, I • O Allah! • with excessive wrongs; • Myself
وَ لاَ يَغْفِرُ He forgives No/None And
+ *37 ذُنُوب • sins • sin جمع مكسّر
ذَنْب: ذُنُوب sin نَفْس: نُفُوسsoul بَيت: بُيُوتhouse
إِلاَّ أَنْتَ You Except
Message from: • Nobody’s recommendation will work • None can help • Only You can forgive!
Practice with imagination, feelings and prayer • can forgive • and none • except You; • the sins
غَفَرَ He forgave يَغْفِرُ He forgives اِغْفِر Forgive..!!
فَـ اغْفِرْ لِيْ So / Then / Hence me Forgive..!!
مَغْفِرَةً مِّنْ عِنْدِكَ *197 From your Forgiveness (اپنی خاص بخشش سے)

وَ ارْحَمْـ نِيْ me Have mercy..!! and

Any plural that doesn’t follow the law of “ون” or “ين” (as we studied earlier, for example: plural of مُسْلِم is مُسلِمُون، مُسْلِمِين ) It has broken the law! Therefore, it is called “Broken Plural.” نَفْس : soul(أَنْفُس، نُفُوس) نفسون، نفسين ذَنْب : sin (ذُنُوب) ذنبون، ذبنين
Two Types of Plurals 1 2 Solid Plural جمع سَالِم مُسْلِمُون، مُسْلِمِين، كَافِرون، كَافِرِين، Broken Plural جمع مُكَسَّر أَنْفُس، نُفُوس ذُنُوب The tense for broken plural is singular feminine!!! (Later)
As we complete the Salah… • Ask for forgiveness as we end the Salah • That includes determination to stick to the right path after the Salah. • This prayer was taught by the Prophet pbuh to Abu Bakr (R), the best person of the Ummah. And look at the message… • Let us live from “Salah to Salah”. We will come again in the next Salah and ask again.
