1 Analytical Photosynthesis + Revision from TRENDY • Content: • Analytical resolution of the Farquhard model • Revision of some Photosynthetic parameters • Addition of a CO2 downregulation effect of Vcmax/Vjmax (optional) • Revision for the Tropical PFTs : • Fraction of C allocated to Above Ground Biomass decreased • Fraction of C allocated in the wood product pools changed • Impact: • Reduce the net global Carbon uptake over 20th Century in closer agreement to GCP estimates. • Change the futur predictions of C: lower sensitivity to increase CO2
2) Soil Freezing and new snow Albedo • Content: • Soil freezing scheme of Isabelle Goutevin: change thermal soil properties and water properties • New multi-layer snow scheme (from Meteo-France)with new snow albedo • Impact: • Strong impact of the energy balance and surface Temp.for high latitudes regions • …
3) Grassland management + Crop improvement • Content: • Add the module of Grass Management (grazing or cutting scenario) ; optional module • Change the Crop phenology with adding PFTs for Winter vs Summer crops, and change few parameters • Impact: • Changes in LAI : more realistic seasonal cycle • Impact the net carbon fluxes to the atmosphere • Impact the overall surface albedo and thus the energy balance
4) SPITFIRE • Content: • New module to compute the surface burned area depending on soil moisture condition, litter content, population,…. • Compute also the fraction of burned above ground C pools • Impact: • Mainly impact the net carbon fluxes to the atmosphere • Impact also the soil/vegetation carbon pools
5) NITROGEN Cycle • Content: • Nitrogen cycle in the soil (nitrification, denitrification,…) • Impact of N content on Photosynthesis • Impact: • Strong impact on the net carbon fluxes (through GPP) • Small impact on LE Implementation in the TRUNC and/or in DOFOCO to be decided in June 2014.
