  3. Diana • observations: set valueranges to show, hide or set colour (all or elements) • image: combine several (NOAA) pictures to one (mosaic) • fields and crossections: many computations available (vorticity, geostrophic wind, equivalent potential temperature etc.)

  4. Modfly – aviation forecast tool • monitoring of Metars and TAFs • production of TAFs • remote trending: Appending forecast to Metar at regional centers • using the TIPS library • connecting to Diana: fields, soundings and production overview

  5. Tseries • meteograms • EPS diagrams • probability diagrams • ocean data diagrams (wave, current, …) • connecting to Diana

  6. QED : Point forecasting tool • replacing the old X/Motif tool qbEdit • prototype • editing curves, tables or values/symbols on map • connecting to mySql database • connecting to Diana (with editing features)

  7. VePS : Verification Presentation System • misc statistics computed and displayed • access to model data and obs. database • access to edited data (from qbEdit/QED) • connecting to Diana

  8. Coming: Forecast text editor • prototype late 2004 • forecast text editor allowing only words/phrases that can be fully identified (value, time, area) • using model or corrected data to control the contents while writing • monitoring of issued forecasts • connecting to Diana

  9. Problems • data formats: we are mainly using very proprietary data formats • BUFR and GRIB needs a file structure on top, with an index • image data will soon be in HDF5 files • observations: BUFR in HDF5 ? • fields: NetCDF or GRIB and ??? • met.no currently evaluating formats

  10. Development utilities at met.no R&D • 5 programmers (with many things to do) • an eager usergroup with many wishes • C++ • Qt: dialogs, windows, eventhandling and QSocket to connect applications • OpenGL (Mesa3D): graphics • Linux environment
