School Travel Plans What is so important about how we choose to travel ?
walking helps to keep you fit We want more people to walk, if they can, because....
less cars on the road more walking =
safer places to cross fewer cars on the road =
less pollution more walking & fewer car journeys =
Less pollution will help reduce global warming
Do you remember this? The school travel survey 207 surveys were returned This is what the survey told us…..
school How pupils get to St Thomas Primary School
home How pupils get home from St Thomas Primary School
How pupils would like to travel to and from St Thomas Catholic Primary School
This tells us some people travel half a mile or less by car distance and mode analysis St Thomas Primary School
school travel by bus walk to school travel by car would car share Post code mapping This map shows where children travel from and how
Other issues • The buses • buses are irregular & not trustworthy • The roads • volume of traffic on Stanton and Nottingham Road builds up and blocks the crossing • vehicles don't always stop at red light on Nottingham Rd/Stanton road junction, lorries block your view of the green man and there's no sound to let you know you can cross.
These are some of the ideas we have had to include in our travel plan
School Travel Plan idea To take part in Walk to School Week
to reduce traffic around school by Encouraging people to car share Encouraging people to park away from school and walk the last distance in. This is called Park & Stride
School Travel Plan and it’s not just for pupils – teachers will be encouraged to take part as well.
