BACTERIA • Microbiologist – one who studies microscopic organisms(bacteria). • Bacteria think of germs that cause diseases. • Decomposer Organism – living things that eat things that have died. • Bacteria have 2 names – name for what they are and name for shape • Bacteria needs – Moisture, Temperature, PH, Nutrition If bacteria don’t have the 4 things that they need, bacteria makes endospore and waits for a better environment.
ARCHAEBACTERIA ThermoacidophilesMethanogensHalophiles
EUBACTERIA CoccusBacillusSpirillum
Parts of a Bacteria cell • Bacteria do asexual reproduction • The bacteria gets bigger then divides in 1/2
Many bacteria do Chemosynthesis(make food from chemicals.) • Most bacteria are Parasitic(eat a living host-organism) • Parasite(noun)-thing that is parasitic. • Saprophytic-eat dead things(decomposer organism) • Some classification systems only have 5 kingdom- Kingdom Eubacteria + Kingdom Archaebacteria = Kingdom Monera .
VIRUSES • Microscopic organism that needs to use its host(living organism) to reproduce. • We cannot kill a virus- Antiviral medicine stops the virus from making babies then wait for virus to get old and die. • Virology - the study of Viruses Microbiology - the study of microscopic organisms like Bacteria • Vaccination/Vaccinate – take dead Virus and put it into body so the body So the body will not ever let the virus Make copies.
The structure(parts) of a Virus • Core – holds DNA or RNA (not both) • Capsid – covering of made of protein around the core • Virion– Whole virus cell ( core & capsid together)
