What is USMAP? • A registered apprenticeship is a formalized structured training program which combines on-the-job training and related technical instruction. • Allows participants to receive practical and technical work experience training to develop essential skills that translates into a civilian career. • Voluntary program

4. What’s in it for me? • This program allows active duty Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard members to obtain a Department of Labor Apprenticeship Certificate of Completion that translates to the civilian workforcewhile still on active duty. • Increases chances of employment post military service • DOL Registered Apprentices earn competitive wages in the civilian sector • Average wage for fully-proficient worker who completes apprenticeship is $50K annually. Apprentices who complete their program earn approximately $300K more during their career than non-apprenticeship workers. • May earn college credit • National industry certification

5. Why should I participate? • NO COST!!! • No off-duty hours required • Receive a Department of Labor Apprenticeship Certificate of Completion that never expires • Enhances military job skills • Opens opportunities both in and out of military career

This certificate is one of the oldest, most basic, and most highly portable industry credentials in use today. • Nationwide recognition as a qualified journeyman

7. Requirements • Must be active duty/full time support Coast Guard, Marine Corps, or Navy • Must have sufficient time to complete the program while on active duty. (Minimum of 1 full year on current enlistment at the time of enrollment) • Must have completed the required formal classroom instruction for the trade (i.e. NEC/MOS school) • Undesignated personnel (Airmen, Fireman, Seaman) may still enroll in the program. However, must complete or provide proof of completion of equivalent formal training by the of their enrolled trade program

8. Requirements (Cont) • Members must enroll in trades available for your Rate/MOS • Agree to terms of apprenticeship • Member may only enroll in ONE trade at a time. Must complete or cancel current trade enrollment in order to enroll for another trade • Selected trade must be your primary job at your command • Trade cannot be a collateral duty or temporary duty assignment

9. Member’s Responsibilities • Print off work process schedule to keep track of your skill hours • Log hours daily • Have Supervisor/LPO/SNCO review and sign logs weekly and enter on online record • Have Division Officer/Chief/Second Level Supervisor sign monthly logs and enter in online record • Every six months submit a semiannual report which needs to be printed out, reviewed and signed by a Reviewing Officer • Send semiannual/progress status report to the USMAP Office for processing • YOU are the only one accountable for your reports…NOT your coordinator or Career Counselor • Maintain logs for future reference
