Reveille / Retreat “Reveille" bugle, trumpet or pipes used to wake up at sunrise derived from the French word for “wake up” Signal for the start of the officaldutyday (AFMAN 36-2203, 7.23) “Retreat” • Two-fold purpose: • signals the end of the official duty day • serves as a ceremony to lower & paying respect to the flag. • First note of retreat, face the flag (if visible) or music and assume the position of parade rest. • End of the music, command attention, present arms • Band plays national anthem
Raising the Flag (AFMAN 36-2203, 7.25) When possible: 3 people: NCO, 2 airman NCO carries flag in the center Detail marches to flagstaff –halts 2 airman face staff & attach flag to halyards (National Anthem playing-detail raises on first note_ NCO holds flag until hoisted clear- come to attention & present arms Last note or flag hoisted at staff head-all execute order arms on command of senior member.
