The main functions of the respiratory system. • The main function of the respiratory system is breathing.
Vocabulary Trachea-Allows air to enter the body. Vocal chords- Makes sound ( helps you to talk) Lungs- helps your body to breath. Epiglottis- allows food or liquid to enter your esophagus instead of your airway. Diaphragm- A muscular partition separating the thorax from the abdomen. Larynx- A hollow organ forming an air passage to the lungs that holds your vocal cords.
The body systems with other systems. The respiratory system works together with the circulatory system to supply oxygen to the parts of the body like the respiratory system.

You brain can change your breathing rate. Bacteria, viruses, and other micro- organisms can infect any of the organs in the respiratory systems.
