II. Biblical principles that will help produce a long life. • A. Negatively what God says to avoid.
B. Positively, what God says to do. • 1. Fear God – Pr. 10:27. • 2. Obey God – Pr. 3:1,2. • 3. Right speech – Ps. 34:12-14. • Honor parents – Ex. 20:12; Deut. 5:16; Eph. 6:1-3. • 5. Special warnings about disobeying parents.
C. A right relationship with the Lord does more to promote good health and long life than all the vitamins, exercise and correct eating and protection devices available to a person.
Hear, read, study, memorize, meditate, apply God’sWord Exercise, diet, etc.
III. Biblical reasons a godly leader disciplines his body. • A. What God says about it to you as a believer. • 1. Your body is a member of Christ – 1 Cor. 6:15. • 2. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit - 1 Cor. 6:19. • 3. Your body is God's property, it doesn't belong to you – 1 Cor. 6:20.
4. You are to use your body to serve God - Rom. 12:1. 5. Everything you do with your body is to glorify God – 1 Cor. 10:31; Phil. 1:20.
You are to take care of your body as good stewardship of His property. • 1. An appointment with your physician is primarily stewardship not to restore or maintain good health. • 2. Preventing illness and getting well are by-products of stewardship of your body.
3. Learn what the Bible teaches about good health to be a good steward of God’s property.
IV. Biblical principles to help discipline the body - 1 Cor. 9:27. • Sex - Heb 13:4; Pr. 2:16-19; Pr. 7:22,23. • B. Food - Pr 23:20.
C. Sleep • 1. Is pleasant after day of work - Ecc. 5:12. • 2. Laziness will produce excessive sleep - Pr. 19:15. • 3. Excessive sleep produces poverty - Pr. 20:13. • May be driven away by anxiety and guilt - Dan. 6:18. • 5. Is possible even in danger- Ps. 3:5; 4:8; Pr. 3:24.
E. Avoid wickedness and foolishness - Ecc. 7:17. • D. Exercise - 1 Ti 4:8.
