Bataan Memorial Death March ‘05 Adam’s story of how he honored the POW/MIA of the Bataan Death March
The original Bataan Death March was during World War Two;tens of thousands of American and Filipino troops were captured by Japanese Forces in the Philippines. Those forces were forced to march about 70 miles through the hot, malaria infested jungles of Bataan to a prison camp. Thousands of Americans and Filipinos died throughout the course of the march.
The Bataan Memorial Death March was held March 20th 2005.We had 2 teams: A team and B team (I was on B team). We marched 26.2 miles through the intense desert terrain of White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. We carried rucksacks on our backs that weighed about 40 lbs each. The march took my team about ten and a half hours to complete. We all agreed that it was the hardest thing any of us had ever done.
Some shots along the way. . . • A team: • B team:
Here I am almost at the end. We were completely exhausted, but we continued to encourage each other to press on.
The Bataan Memorial Death March was the hardest physically challenging event that I have ever completed. Having finished it, I have a much greater appreciation for the POW/MIA.
