  2. How do you conjugate a regular present-tense verb? • Take off the -ar, -er, -ir • Now you have the stem • Find the subject of the sentence (who is doing the action) • Add the appropriate ending to the verb based on the subject.

  3. Stem-changers • Stem changing verbs are also called boot verbs because the subjects that take a stem change form a boot. • Stem-changes happen in every subject except nosotros and vosotros • There are four groups: • o→ ue • e→ ie • u→ ue • e→ i

  4. o→ue Volver Meaning: to return Otrosverbossimilares: almorzar (to eat lunch), dormir (to sleep), dormirhasta (to sleep until), probar (to taste), llover (to rain)

  5. e→ie Empezar Meaning: to begin Empezar a infinitive means to begin something new Otrosverbossimilares: merendar (to have a snack), entender (to understand), preferir (to prefer), querer (to want)

  6. u→ue Jugar Meaning: to play

  7. e→i Pedir Meaning: to ask for Otroverbosimilar: servir (to serve)
