Field Practices • Take comprehensive field notes. • If it is not documented, it didn’t happen • Take your time. • Make sure you will record useful data. The “Fort Five” • Do you have power? • Does the seismometer produce signal? • Is your instrument programmed correctly? • Do you have timing? • Is your data being telemetered or stored on-site?
Connect the Clié • Connect the Clié to the Console port on the Q330 • On the Clié launch Q330beta
Check Q330 Status • Select Overview from Q330beta’s spash screen • Select System from Views
Things to Look For • Last GPS Lock/Phase Error/Clock Quality • GPS should cycle ever 3 hours • Main Current/Input Volts • Should usually be less than 100ma • Input Volts should be >12V • Boom Pos (in 1/10V, e.g. 18=1.8V) • Should be between -20 & +20 • Last Boot • Should coincide with your last service or earlier • Last Resync • Last time the internal clock was significantly different from GPS time and internal clock had to be resynchronized. This should usually only happen shortly after Last Boot time.
Check the Sensor • Select QuickView beneath the Views menu. • Do a Stomp Test to ensure all elements are working • Be sure to press Stop before leaving this window.
Flush RAM to baler • If the Status LED is green and the Ethernet Link LED is on then the baler is already running. If the Ethernet Active LED is yellow most of the time it means that data is being sent to the baler. Wait until the Ethernet Active LED activity slows down then press and release the ATTN button to turn the baler off. Wait until the Status LED returns to blinking green every few seconds before doing anything else. • If the Status LED is blinking once every few seconds then the baler is off. Use the menus below to turn the baler on.
Prepare the Baler • Using the download QNET cable, connect the alligator clips to a battery. • Connect the RJ-45 to the laptop. • Connect the QNET connector to the front of the Baler Note: This is a cross-over network cable.
Baleaddr Should Recognize the baler The Baler OK message indicates all is working
Select Data To Offload Download both multiplexed and just 1sps
Clean the baler Wait for baleaddr to indicate it is done
Disconnect the Baler • QNET • Laptop • Battery 1 2 3
Types • File and header viewing • mseedpeek • mseedscan • File manipulation and editing • sdrsplit • fixhdr • qedit • Waveform viewing • pql • SEED building • PDCC
