  7. A. Preview the QUESTIONS For each question: • Read the question, double underlineskill words, add thinking tools if possible, single underline other important words. 2. Put a by the questions for which you’ll need to refer back to the passage.add your own knowledge of skills using arrows + skill title. 3. Circle words like best, most, correctly, incorrectly, etc. 4. Use the questions to help you set your purpose for reading. Preview B. Preview the PASSAGE • Underline the title. • Circle the headings. • Number the paragraphs or sections, or circle them if they’re already labeled. • Study the pictures. Connect them to the title and headings of the passage. • Predict the passage based on the title, pictures, questions, and headings. “I predict this passage will [SPIED] me by telling me ____________.” Write it down. Read Read with an eye for inference and rules • Underline keys to each paragraph. • Write a super simple main idea beside each or when hits you. • Add inferences and thinking tools as you go. • Look for rules. Note the following: • SPIED + Modes clues • Text Structure clues • Perspective + Plot Elements (if a story) • Circle errors (if a student draft) • Write a simple summary • One sentence or so explaining the main idea of the passage, referring to your prediction.

Operate As you answer the questions… • Refer back to the passage for all questions you starred and others you missed. - Aside from grammar questions, all question answers depend on information found in the passage or inferences made based upon the passage. • Eliminate at least one answer choice. Be wary of eliminating three answers. Stick to two. • Circle your answer then bubble. • If you’re unsure, circle the question number and add the question to your go back and check list if necessary. Answer the question for now, but come back to it.
