Energy Industry Competency Model • Tiers 1-3: Personal Effectiveness, Academic Competencies, Workplace Competencies • Tiers 4-5: Industry-wide and Industry-specific Technical Competencies • Tiers 6-8: Occupation-specific Competencies
Service Assistant: What do you do? Assists with: • Ensuring the safe operation of gas utilization equipment; providing minor adjustments to and otherwise makes malfunctioning appliances and appliance conversions (propane) • The safe removal of mercury seal regulators from customer premises • The safety and environment area with mercury spill incidents • The operation and maintenance of meters and regulators • Higher-graded employees in other duties as assigned • Using special equipment (fire extinguisher, first aid, etc.)
Service Assistant: What do you do? • Perform regular and scheduled maintenance/construction facilities/customer premises • Maintains the ability to read and interpret company records • Communicates effectively via radio/CAD unit • Operates required tools • Stocks and equips company vehicle • Maintains tools, equipment and instruments
Helper Mechanic: What do you do? • Assists with maintaining and providing safe and reliable gas transportation • Supports the crew by performing manual excavation using equipment for the maintenance of gas facilities • Operates company vehicle • Assists with emergency/priority situations
Helper Mechanic: What do you do? • Operates power tools as needed • Excavates company facilities • Is aware and follows proper procedures when excavating near or around other utilities • Assists in the performance of regular and scheduled maintenance on company facilities • Interprets company records • Communicates effectively with customers and co-workers, both electronically and in person • Stocks and equips company vehicle • Maintains tools equipment/instruments • Assists with inspecting, testing an documenting finding for CGI, fire extinguisher, personal protective equipment, etc.
Line Mechanic Trainee: What do you do? • Able and willing to: • Travel to various company locations • Work in a variety of work environments, including all weather conditions, at extreme heights, in confined spaces and other environments while wearing PPE and other heavy equipment • Perform both indoor and outdoor tasks for extended periods of time and around energized electrical equipment • Work rotating shifts on up to 90 pounds climbing ladders
Line Mechanic Trainee: Licenses/Certifications • If over 21, CDL and a medical card or the ability to obtain each within 6 months • Must pass qualifications tests both pencil and paper and 2-day outdoor Pre-Qualification exercise (includes climbing poles and working/wearing heavy equipment) • This is a NERC position, which requires an initial criminal history background check and a background check every seven years
Helper Substation Tech: What do you do? • Work as a member of a crew in performance of tasks associated with the operation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting and repair of high voltage substation equipment and controls; power circuit breakers, power transformers, control batteries and chargers, metal-clad switchgear, high voltage busses, fire protections systems, low voltage station service equipment, capacitor banks and disconnect switches
Helper Substation Tech: Licenses/Certifications • Must be 21 years or older and possess a Class B CDL and a medical card or the ability to obtain each within one year of hire • Must pass qualifications tests • This is a NERC position, which requires an initial criminal history background check and a background check every seven years • Must complete annual NERC compliance training
WorkKeys: Locating Information • Level 3: Elementary workplace graphics such as simple forms, bar graphs, tables, flowcharts, maps, instrument gauges and floor plans (one graphic at a time) • Level 4: Straight forward workplace graphics such as order forms, diagrams, line graphs, tables, flowcharts, instrument gauges and maps (one or two graphics at a time)
WorkKeys: Locating Information • Level 5: Complicated workplace graphics such as detailed forms, tables, graphs, diagrams, maps or instrument gauges • Must sort through distracting information • Summarize information from one or two graphics • Identify and compare information and trends in one or more detailed graphics
WorkKeys: Locating Information • Level 6: Very complicated and detailed graphs, charts, tables, forms, maps, diagrams with large amounts of information and challenging formats with one or more graphics at a time • Draw conclusions and apply information from one more graphics that are complicated and related • Use information to make decisions
