Linear Equations Unit PlanMinh HUynh
Unit Summary • Students analyze system linear equations while comparing it to real life situations. They research real life situations such as current events from today’s economy. They create a presentation and write a report on what they learned and share it with their peers.
CFQs • Essential Question: How is math an intricate part of our lives? • Unit Question: How can I use math to plan a business? • Content Questions: When is there a price equilibrium amongst buyers and sellers in an economic market?
Unit Vision • Students develop reasoning for why math is important to everyday life. • Challenge students to think critically. • Understand the concepts of system linear equation and its importance. • Have students thinking mathematically at all times throughout their lives.
Assessment to Gauge Student Needs I can use the information from these projects to: • Gauge misconceptions and troubles of system linear equations. • Develop students critical thinking. Students can use this information to: • Understand how previous and future lessons are important to real life. • Develop new methods to approach mathematics.
Why Projects? Although by doing practice problems over and over to make sure students are getting the concepts sounds like a good idea, the students are more than likely to forget why these concepts are important to the real world. There are many benefits in combining projects with mathematics. Benefits include: • Learning how to incorporate the latest in technology in their projects. • Adapting math concepts into real world situations. • Develop critical thinking skills as well as teamwork skills (there will be individual and team projects).
Target Content Standards Students solve a system of two linear equations in two variables algebraically and are able to interpret the answer graphically. Students are able to solve a system of two linear inequalities in two variables and to sketch the solution sets.
Requests for Feedback • Need ways to for students to solve system linear equations without relying on finding the set solution on a graph whether it is through substitution or combination. • Need ways to assess student’s critical thinking skills.
