Building Temperature Setback Policy Implementation General Government Facilities
What Is Temperature Setback? • Integral Part of the County’s Energy Management Plan • Conservation Methodology for Energy and Equipment During the Time Buildings Are Primarily Unoccupied • Common Sense Approach To Energy Conservation and Cost Avoidance
Why Institute Temperature Setback? • Oil is Over $60 a Barrel • Natural Gas is $10 - $14 / Thousand Cubic Feet • Electric Prices Are Fixed Until 2007, but Our Bills Increase Based on a Fuel Factor Adjustment. The Fuel Factor Has Risen 100% since 2000. • Temperature Setback Will Avoid Some of These Costs (Over $30,000 Annually) • It’s the Environmentally and CulturallyCorrect Option
How Will Setback Work? • When Buildings Are Normally Occupied, Temperatures Will Be Set To a Comfortable Point. • Building Setback Comes Into Play Primarily for Overnight, Weekends and Holidays. • During These Times Building Temperatures Will Be Programmed to Operate 4 Degrees Cooler in Cool Seasons and 4 Degrees Warmer in Warm Seasons. • Building Setback Temperatures Will Adjust Gradually and Recover Before Business Hours the Next Day. • Exceptions to Setback Temperature Hours Will Require a Department Head’s Request and Facilities Management Approval.
