Spaghetti Lab! How many marbles can various numbers of spaghetti strands support? What modifications can you make??
Materials • 40 spaghetti pcs. • 40 marbles • 1 cup • 1 bucket -string • Spaghetti Lab • Purpose: Graphically represent the minimum # of marbles it takes to break specific # of spaghetti strands. • Procedure: Describe your procedure. • Data Table: with headings, units • Graph Must Include… • Title, Scale, Data, best-fit line • Calculations for slope • Label Independent and Dependent variables
Procedure: • Begin with 1 spaghetti piece and the empty ‘bucket’ (cup/string). • Add marbles one at a time until the spaghetti breaks. • Record the data: • Empty the ‘bucket’ and repeat with TWO spaghetti pieces. • Continue until time or 8 spaghetti pieces.
Describe the relationship between marbles and spaghetti strands. • Looking at your graph, do you seen any patterns? • If so, what patterns do you see? Write an IF/THEN statement • Ex: IF the number of spaghetti strands increases…..THEN the number of marbles…. • Predict approximately how many marbles can 10 strands of spaghetti support?
