SITC Main Activities • Selecting beneficiary school with these criteria • Low income • Minimum infrastructure (electricity, telephone, secure room…) • Proximity (to minimize expenses and to be within reach of facilitators) • Adequate number of students • In consultation with education bureau
Fitawrari Abayneh Metekia Secondary School • New school established 3 years ago • Located in Akaki (in the outskirts of Addis) • Currently hosts 2200 students (45.5% girls) • Has material/financial problems (no computers before SITC project) • Serves mostly students from low-income families
… continued (SITC main activities) • Purchase 3 new PCs with network accessories • Sending used PCs from Norway is expensive (1500-2000NOK/PC shipping + tax in Eth.) • New PCs therefore usable for longer period • 1 year warranty • Process is less time-consuming • Tax, transp. costs… pre-paid so less bureaucratic • Provides badly-needed foreign currency to Eth. • Local business in Eth. will benefit • We ensure Eth. is not dumping ground for used goods

SITC Project Recommendations for Phase 2 (Jan-Dec 2009) • Increase internet connection time (currently only 2hours/day is sponsored by the project) • Increase number of PCs • Purchase 1 printer • Attract more partners/donors • Gradually withdraw from project
