3. Why use lecture capture? Instructors Serves multiple learning styles Video Recording(optional) yourself – body language adds to and personalizes material, helps student comprehension, gives the instructor the opportunity to observe / modify their presentation/delivery. Instructor doesn’t have to say the same things repeatedly. Can save the instructor time. Recorded lectures, instructions, syllabus review, anything that can be used in subsequent quarters Accessibility – Captioning feature is easy to use! Free to us – technology and file storage are paid for by SBCTC

4. Lecture capture will support the student’s note taking • Students can access class materials as needed, playing and replaying as often as needed. • Students can access class materials when they can’t access the campus classroom. • Students can interact with the presentation by using the Bookmarking feature. Record lessons/lectures ahead of time and the students’ homework is to watch the recording at home. • Connect online and f2f work • Use the classroom for higher learning activities such as critical thinking and practical application of concepts. • Additional Resources ‘Flipping the classroom’--M. 7. Have your materials open and ready to use. • PowerPoints, browser screens, documents • Don’t video record students without students’ permission • Use the whiteboard to mark the frame of the video. This helps you to stay within frame. • Use the pause button as needed, check the volume, stop button • Allow 1-2 seconds between slides with no talking to facilitate the editing process if needed • Accessibility- keep your body facing forward so people can see your face. Work from a transcript. • Repeat student’s question so it can be included in the recording • Slide should be displayed for 20 seconds. (allows indexing) Best Practices

8. Copy the recording first • From the Table of Contents page in Tegrity • Select the recording to copy • Bottom left – select “copy” from the action menu • Edit the recording • From the table of contents page • Select the recording to edit • Select “Edit” from the action menu Editing

9. Create a txt document in this format: [00:00:00.000] Hi, I’m Pam Smith. I’m the Director of Client Services here at Tegrity. [00:00:08.000] Today I’m going to speak about Section 508 compliance and the Tegrity campus Playback experience. [00:00:15.000] Specifically, we are going to go over the details of how the Tegrity Campus Playback experience [00:00:20.000] complies with Section 508 of the US Rehabilitation Act. [00:00:25.000] Each slide gets a new line in the txt document. Additional details. Create Closed Captioning

10. Use the following steps to add closed caption text to a Tegrity recording. Select the recording you wish to add Closed Captioning to by clicking on the checkbox associated with the recording title. Select Edit from the Actions menu (located in the bottom left corner of the page). Select Add Closed Captioning from the actions menu on the edit page. Upload the previously created Closed Caption text file. Add Captioning

11. Share by using a link • From the Table of Contents page in Tegrity • Select the recording to share • Bottom left – select “Get Class Link” from the action menu • Wait for the pop up window • Decide: • to keep the checkmark disallowing anonymous viewing – this requires viewers to enter an id and password before viewing • or remove checkmark and make the recording open • Copy the URL and paste it where you want it. Sharingwithin or outside of ANGEL

12. Share by embedding a video within ANGEL • From the Table of Contents page in Tegrity • Select the recording to share • Bottom left – select “Get Class Link” from the action menu • Wait for the pop up window • You must • remove checkmark • Copy the embed code • Open a page in ANGEL > Settings > Content tab > click once on the Source button on the editing tool bar > paste the embed code in the text box > Save and close the settings. You will see the video on the page in ANGEL Sharing

13. Recording your Class Session • Handout – Step by step instructions • Open your file or other electronic material that you want to record (ppt, doc, excel spreadsheet, etc. • Open angel.northseattle.edu • Click on the Tegrity nugget. If you don’t see a Tegrity nugget then you must add it. Edit Page > Add components>Tegrity • Select a class in which to put your videos. Videos are not ‘confined’ to that particular class • Make sure your camera/mic are plugged in and ready to go. Let’s Get Started! – Terre O’Malley
