UC Admission Policy • The University's admission policy calls for reviewing applications in depth • Each university uses a comprehensive/holistic review process • They want to see academic achievement and promise. They are looking for how you will contribute to the vitality of the campus.
Comprehensive Review 1. Grade-point average 2. Test scores 3. Performance in and number of courses beyond minimum a-g requirements 4. UC-approved honors courses and advanced courses 5. Eligibility in the Local Context (ELC) 6. Quality of senior-year program of study 7. Academic opportunities in California high schools 8. Outstanding performance in one or more academic subject areas 9. Achievements in special projects 10. Improvement in academic performance 11. Special talents, achievements and awards 12. Participation in educational preparation programs 13. Academic accomplishment in light of life experiences 14. Geographic location Note: No single factor determines admission
Application is done on-line • www.admission.universityofcalifornia.edu • One application can be used for all 9 universities.
Items you need to apply • Unofficial transcript • Social Security Number • Parent Income • SAT scores • List of Activities, Awards, Leadership, Community Service, Employment since 9th grade • Polished Personal Statements done in a word document format • Credit card

The Personal Statement • 2 Prompts – applicant must address both • 1,000 word total or less for both. Think about 250/750 split. • View as a personal interview on paper • Compose responses outside of the application and request feedback from teachers, counselors, parents and/or friends • Paste your responses in plain text
The Personal Statement Statement 1: Describe the world you come from — for example, your family, community or school — and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations. Statement 2: Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud, and how does it relate to the person you are?
Additional Comments Use the space provided to describe a situation (personal or academic) that needs further explanation and not fully captured elsewhere in the application. This is NOT a continuation of the personal statement.
