AVEQ - Clermont-Ferrand, 19-21 September2007 WP9 Analysis for cold tolerance in oat
Institutes involved: Experimental Institute for Cereal Research, via S.Protaso 302, 29017 Fiorenzuola d’Arda (PC), Italy. IPGR, Sadovo, Bulgaria Suceava Genebank, Romania
Field trials: 2008 2009
Italian partner will screen for winter hardiness winter accessions Romanian partner will screen spring accessions for frost resistance Bulgarian partner will screen winter and spring accessions for winter hardiness Until end of the 2007 we need the information about growth habit (spring or winter types) from the coordinator of the multiplication WP2
Seeds • Italian and Bulgarian partner need to receive the seeds until september 2008 for winter types • Romanian and Bulgarian partner need to receive the seeds until february 2008 for spring types.
Plots of 2 m2 60 g (1000 seeds) for the samples 300 g. for standards
Protocols of field work • Each partner will register the meteo data; • The field injury will be visually estimated on a 0-9 scale according to Rizza et al. (1994). • After beginning the stable vegetable period the partner countries have to evaluate survival plants /1m2
Protocol for cold resistance • Italian partner will receive all data from the Bulgarian partner and select 100 accession in order to make clorofile fluorescence evaluation test. • Romanian partner will make cold resistance tests (two regimes of - 100 C and - 120 C) and for comparing cold resistance of accessions it will be used formula NA .
Chlorophyll fluorescence evaluation (Fv/Fm) on a set of cultivars (100?) The standard treatment: 1 week-old plants were hardened at 3-1°C (day/night) 200mE m-2 s-1 for 4 weeks and subjected to a freezing treatment (–12°C)
