  4. Going to High School To earn a high school diploma, you must… • Earn 24 credits in specific subject areas • Pass the Graduation Test - Writing • Attend school • Complete 20 hours of approved Community Service by the end of the 3rd year

  5. Going to High School What is a unit of credit ? A number (1.0) to indicate you passed a class. To earn credits you need to be in class and pass the class!

Going to High School Required Areas of Study Units Required English Language Arts 4 Mathematics 4 Science 4 Social Studies 3 Health & Physical Education 1 World Language 2 College Prep (3 preferred) OR 1 CTAE (2 preferred) Pathway 4 * * (must be in approved sequence of courses) Electives 2 College Prep 3 CTAE Total Minimum Units 24 Community Service Requirements • In addition to successfully completing all academic and attendance requirements as outlined by the SCCPSS and the state of Georgia, every student must complete a minimum of 20 hours of community service by the completion of the junior year. Refer to IHE-R for students entering SCCPSS from private or out-of-county school after 9th grade.

Going to High School • Mathematics CCGPS* 9th - Coordinate Algebra 10th - Analytic Geometry 11th - Advanced Algebra 12th - Pre-Calculus OR 9th - Accelerated Coordinate Algebra/Analytic Geometry A 10th - Accelerated Analytic Geometry B/Advanced Algebra 11th - Accelerated Pre-Calculus 12th - AP Calculus, AP Statistics, or Advanced level Mathematics course

Going to High School Career, Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) Pathway (required for all students entering Grade 9 in 2013-2014 and beyond) 4 units in a coherent sequence of CTAE courses leading to college readiness and a career readiness certificate endorsed by related industries Arts Pathway is in approval state with GaDOE: Visual Arts, Performing Arts www.gadoe.org Search: CTAE

Going to High School • Secondary Assessment Transition Plan • Students entering grade nine for the first time first during the 2011-2012 school year and beyond • Must pass the GHSWT • •Are not required to take or pass GHSGT • (test not administered) • •Are required to pass courses* associated with EOCT, with EOCT contributing 20% to course grade

Going to High School • Community Service Every student must complete a minimum of 20 hours of community service by the completion of the junior year. • Must be completed at a non-profit agency • Student cannot work at a business • Cannot be completed during the school day • Student cannot get paid
