  5. Example Specific Purpose: To increase the number of youth who respond to the post-school outcomes survey

  9. Example Timebound Purpose: To increase the number of students enrolling in higher education and completing at least one term.

  10. S.M.A.R.T. Improvement Activity To increase the number of minority youth who respond to the post-school outcomes survey from 57.34% (n=766) to 59.1% (n=790), the State, will design and implement a marketing plan that targets minority youth and use the NPSO response calculator to track the responses of minorities by March 2013.

What do the data tell us? • Examine youth who are considered not engaged • For those youth who answered “Yes” to particpating in Higher Education, Examine subsequent question about enrollment in higher education • 2 year or 4-year college or university • Completed one full term • After examining the data, we found no differneces in enrollment based on gender, disability, or race ethnicity • We discovered that youth who are enrolling in higher education are NOT completing one full term Using NPSO Data Displays, Examine Data by Gender, Disability Category, and Race/Ethnicity

  18. S.M.A.R.T. Improvement Activity To increase the number of students in enrolling in higher education and completing at least one term from 22% to 23%, the State, in partnership with university disability services coordinators and vocational rehabilitation counselors, will host 3 one-day collaborative professional development seminars for teachers, guidance counselors, and district administrators, to provide (a) information on available services and supports for youth at IHE, (b) how to access services and supports, and (c) strategies to teach youth about available services, by May of 2013.

  19. Self-Assessment Using an Improvement Activity from SPP FFY 2009, • Determine whether the Improvement Activity meets S.M.A.R.T. criteria using the S.M.A.R.T. Self-Assessment worksheet. • Provide as much detail as possible under each column heading. • Use information in the columns to write a S.M.A.R.T. Improvement Activity for the FFY 2010 APR.

  20. S.M.A.R.T. Improvement Activity Writing Practice Write a statement defining the specific goal of the activity, incorporating S.M.A.R.T. the elements into the statement. Include what it is you want to improve, the actions you will take to complete this activity, your timeline, and how it meets the needs identified by the indicator data (e.g., I-14). Identify additional resources needed to facilitate this Improvement Activity (e.g., technical assistance from National Centers, money from state, increased FTE).
