It is a small step for the oil terminals to store biofuels. The share of biofuels is approximately equal to the mandatory percentage that energy producers are required tot blend (approximately 5 % in 2012). Why is Amsterdam interested in biomass? • Biomass is a new energy source and a driver of the Bio based economy. • Biomass transhipment fits in seamlessly with other transhipment of agri bulk • Biomass players are allready located in the port (e.g.coal terminals & agribulk terminals) • Amsterdam is perfectly suited as a renowned energy hub and having expertise of similar cargo flows. • Enormous growth potential: Five Coal-fired energy plants in the Netherlands already blend biomass.
