401.02 Aerodromes Part 2 • MTPs: • Light Signals • General Ops Near an Aerodrome • VFR and IFR Operations at Uncontrolled Aerodromes within a MF Area • MF Reporting Procedures Before Entering Maneuvering Area • MF Reporting Procedures on Arrival
MTP: Light Signals • Aircraft on the Ground: Flashing green = Cleared to taxi Steady green = Cleared for takeoff Flashing red = Taxi clear of landing area in use Steady red = Stop Flashing white = return to starting point on airport Blinking runway lights = clear runway immediately
MTP: Light Signals • Aircraft In Flight Steady green = cleared to land Steady red or red flare = do not land, continue in circuit Flashing green = return for landing Flashing red = airport unsafe, do not land • Red pyrotechnical lights = do not land for the time being • Red and green projectiles at 10 second intervals = you are in a dangerous or restricted area
MTP: General Ops Near an Aerodrome • CAR 602.96 • Applies to VFR, IFR A/C at or in the vicinity of an uncontrolled or controlled aerodrome
MTP: General Ops Near an Aerodrome • CAR 602.96 - Before taking-off, landing or otherwise operating at an aerodrome the PIC shall be satisfied that: • The aerodrome is suitable for the intended operations • NO likelihood of a collision
MTP: General Ops Near an Aerodrome • CAR 602.96 – The PIC operating at or in the vicinity of an aerodrome shall: • Observe T\traffic to avoid collision • Conform or avoid the pattern of traffic (circuit) • Make left turns in circuit, except where right turns are specified in the Canadian Flight Supplement, (CFS) or ATC authorization • Comply with operating restrictions specified in the CFS
MTP: General Ops Near an Aerodrome • CAR 602.96 – The PIC operating at or in the vicinity of an aerodrome shall: • Land/take-off into wind unless otherwise authorized by ATC • Listen to the radio on the appropriate frequency • Watch for visual signals from ATC if radio use is not possible • If aerodrome is controlled obtain clearance from ATC
MTP: General Ops Near an Aerodrome • CAR 602.96 – No PIC operating at or in the vicinity of an aerodrome shall: • Fly at an altitude less than 2000’ over an aerodrome, unless cleared by ATC • The exception to this rule are as followes:
MTP: General Ops Near an Aerodrome • Exceptions to 2000’ Rule: • In service of an police authority • To save human life • Firefighting or ambulance Ops • Administration of the Fisheries Act or the Coastal Fisheries Protection Act • Administration of the national or provincial parks • Flight inspection • Aerial application or aerial inspection • Highway, city traffic patrol • Aerial Photography conducted by the aerodrome operator • Flight training by certified flight training unit
MTP: VFR and IFR Operations at Uncontrolled Aerodromes within a MF Area • No PIC will operate without equipped radio communication equipment • PIC shall maintain listening watch on the MF
MTP: VFR and IFR Operations at Uncontrolled Aerodromes within a MF Area • VFR with no radio may operate to/from an uncontrolled aerodrome inMF area if: • There is a Ground station • Prior notice of A/C intentions has been given to Ground • PIC visually checks no likelihood of collision on take off • A/C enters the circuit from a position that will require two complete sides of a rectangular circuit before turning onto final approach
MTP: MF Reporting Procedures Before Entering Maneuvering Area • The PIC (VFR or IFR) operating at an uncontrolled aerodrome that lies within an MF shall report intentions before entering the maneuvering area of the aerodrome
MTP: MF Reporting Procedures Before Entering Maneuvering Area • PIC of a VFR A/C arriving at an uncontrolled aerodrome that lies within an MF area shall report: • Before entering the MF area: • at least 5 min before entering • Give A/C position, ALT, ETA, PIC arrival procedure intentions • When joining the circuit: • Give the A/C position: • On Downwind • On Final approach • When clear of the landing surface
