POWER SECTOR, ENERGY RELATED RESEARCH POTENTIAL in LITHUANIA by dr. Anzelmas Bačauskas Lietuvos energija AB, Lithuania CENTRAL-EASTERN EUROPEAN ENERGY CONFERENCE AND RESEARCH POTENTIAL FOR EUROPEAN ENERGY SECTOR 29-30September 2003, WARSAW, POLAND
Structure of Lithuanian Power Sector from January 1, 2002: • Transmission company (Lietuvosenergija AB) • Two distribution companies(Eastern and Western) • Few power generation companies: • Ignalina NPP (2600 MW) • Lithuanian PP (1800 MW) • Four CHP (767 MW total) • Several small HPP • Industrial power plants
Installed, Available Capacity and Production of Power Plants, 2002
Production, Consumption and Export of Electricity in Lithuania )
LIETUVOS ENERGIJA AB owns: • Transmission grid: • 1606 km transmission lines 330 kV, • 4407 km transmission lines 110 kV, • 12 substations 330 kV, • 210 substations 110 kV; • Kaunas HPP and Kruonis PSP; • The control centre; • The telecommunication network • and information system.
Lietuvos energija AB is responsible for: • Management and development of the transmission grid; • Secure and reliable operation of the power system; • Operationof electricity market.
The actors of the Electricity market in Lithuania: • Eligible customers(since 2002 – 20 GWh per year, since 2003 –9 GWh per year, since 2010 – all customers) • Public suppliers –undertakings having in ownership a distribution system having an obligation to supply electricity to captive consumers in its area ; • Independent suppliers – who are the Supply License holder and who are permitted to sell electricity to Eligible customers at contractual prices; • Producers–having generation facilities and permits for production; • Transmission System Operator – Lietuvos energija AB; • Market Operator –a structural unit of Lietuvos energija AB.
