Welcome to Meet the Teacher Night! • Important Dates- NYS Exam Dates: (Later in the school year!) ELA–April 26-28, Math-May 5-7, Science-May 24-June 3, Written part June 7
Homework Policy • Monday-Thursday • *Please initial agenda books daily* • Usually 2 subjects per night • NO HOMEWORK PASSES- given for 100% on tests, as rewards, use for only one subject or can be saved to buy books and prizes at the end of the year • “FisherStarbucks” are rewarded to be “spent” on Flea Market Friday, at the end of each month on books, prizes, and other items. • Students are welcome to bring in old toys, etc. to “sell” at the flea market with your permission.
Tests • Most Friday’s are Spelling Test days • All other test subjects will be announced for students to copy in their Agenda Books, or announced in my newsletters, and must be signed and returned in their Friday Folder (if failure grade given) • Friday Folders- Student’s weekly work, tests, important papers will go home in this. Sign tests, comment sheet, and return Monday.
Discipline System • Consequences of consistent misbehavior will be detention and a phone call home. Letters of apology from the student will be expected. In school detention/work-study—work will be assigned. • Positive behavior will be rewarded by gaining points for teams, letters given to spell “ No Homework”, orFisherStarbucks, or No Homework Passes.
Curriculum *See Middle Country School District Guide or website: www.middlecountry.k12.ny.us Balanced Literacy Program – Reader and Writers Workshop, Guided Reading – see attached papers Spelling – weekly lists, along with Fourth Grade Core Words. Pre-tests given on Monday.
Enrichment • Classroom Centers for independent enrichment, Computer PowerPoint Presentation Instruction, Computer Research & Web-quests, National Geographic Explorer monthly magazine. Butterfly Garden upkeep in courtyard. Individual choices, interests, contest announcements for extra credit. • No more 100% attendance certificates - if your child is ill please keep them home. Daily nutritious snacks and water bottles recommended Extra Help- eboardwebsites for practice, Skills Tutor
Holidays • One Party a month (incl. Birthdays)- Halloween Haunted Houses, Thanksgiving Breakfast, Christmas/Hanukkah Pizza & Ice Cream Party, Blizzard Blast Valentine’s Day Bagel Breakfast, St. Patrick’s Day Bagel Breakfast, Spring Fling, Patriotic Picnic, 4th grade end of year picnic (Please sign up to help) • Birthday Celebrations- once a month, store-bought little trickets for classmates (ex. erasable pens) Invitations to outside parties must be for the entire class
Specials • Monday- P.E. • Tuesday- Music • Wednesday- Art (Chorus) • Thursday- P.E. (Band) • Friday- Library (Orchestra) • Music Lessons are on different days

Notes • Please try to not pick up your children earlier than dismissal time – they will miss too much instructional time. Write Absent notes for your child’s absence. • I look forward to a wonderful year ahead with your child!
