Subjunctive mood • Subjunctive mood (虚拟语气) is used to express a wish, a hypothesis (假设), or a suggestion, something which is not true or impossible to become true. • 虚拟语气定义： • 用来表示说的话不是事实，或者是不可能发生的情况，而是一种愿望，建议，假设的语气叫虚拟语气。

The story of Emily Emily: She is a girl who lives in a small village. She has many wishes. Now, let’s see what her wishes are.

If I had a beautiful car, I would be very happy. She doesn’t have a car.

If I had enough money, I would buy a big house. She wants to buy a big house, but she doesn’t have enough money.

If I were a bird, I would fly high in the sky. Sometimes, she imagines that she is a bird.

Use subjunctive mood to express the ideas. It is raining now, so we won’t play basketball outside. If it didn’t rain, we would play basketball outside. I am not a boy, so I don’t play basketball very often. If I were a boy, I would often play basketball. He is not in the classroom, so we won’t ask him for help. If he were in the classroom, we would ask him for help.
