Word problems Writing equations from word problems
Where to start Knowing the parts of the equation Y = end result X = the event that changes repeatedly M = the rate of change B = the starting out point
Example problem Y = $25 (total spent) X = 4 erasers M = ?? Y = MX + B B = $5 magazine $25 = (4)M + $5 M = 5
Example Problem For our purposes we may need to use more tools like a table. Ex: Jake spent $2 on a Gatorade and $.50 per pack of Twinkies. If Jake bought 6 Twinkies with his Gatorade how much did he spend? Y = total spent X = # of Twinkies Y = .50(x) + 2 Y = $5
