Creating & Using a Teacher Account Serena McKinney – IUSD-2013
Step 1: Go to www.edmodo.com Step 2: Select I’m a teacher on the Edmodo homepage under the sign up section.
Step 3: Enter the school code so you can be added to an IUSD Edmodo account. Your school code is:__________. If you don’t have your code contact your site TAC. Step 4: Enter a username and password email is optional, but nice if you’d like to receive notifications when students post. Title, first and last name are required. Agree to Terms of Service. Step 5: Click Sign Up!
Step 5: Now you should see the groups and communities you are a part of on the left menu bar. You can edit your account with a picture if you like under the Me drop down menu and Settings on the top right. Step 6: Select the plus sign under Other Groups and choose Join or Create on the left if you would like to create a group for your class. Just like you did with Blackboard. For example: Language Arts 7. Step 7: You will see a collection of posts from fellow SV teachers, students, and any connections to other people you have on your wall.
Step 8: Develop a group name, select a grade level/range and subject area and click Create. Step 9: Choose the selected group size and describe it. Select Finish. If you want to set it so that every post is approved by you first, select Advanced Options and click the appropriation setting.
Step 10: Now you will see a group code in the center of your profile. This code is what you give to your students to allow them access to the group. Every code is different, please don’t use the code on this training. Be sure to lock your group after all of your students have joined your class, but if you forget it will automatically lock in 14 days to prevent student mis-use. Step 11: After joining, the students will have a code generate for them to give to the parents.
Here is where you will see notifications about a post a student made either direct to your group page, or in reply to another student. To change notifications and how you receive them go to Account Settings at the top right. The library automatically collects all of your uploaded documents , videos, or PowerPoint's. This would be the “Course Documents” of Edmodo. Once in the library you can create folders to organize your documents, and can sort by either uploading them to posts, or straight to the library. You can even link your GoogleDrive. Here you can organize what you see on your wall. By clicking on what posts you see, it will organize and limit your view. This is helpful if you want to see what your students have posted directly to you, or overall. This helps to monitor what they write if you didn’t select at the beginning to limit student posts. Create and add students to small groups within a group for projects or differentiation.
To write a reminder like you would have an announcement on Blackboard, click Note to post. You can also attach a file, link, or link to something already in the library. Select who to send it to if you have separate groups. You can also send it to parents, once they sign up. An alert is 140 characters only as a quick reminder. To only upload an assignment, click Assignment and load it. You can set the due date here, and it will save in the calendar. Keep track of their progress here- at the top menu bar. To have students take a quiz on here you can create one. When I started my Edmodo group, I had the students take a poll if they liked Edmodo better than Blackbaord. It does a live update as students answer, showing a bar graph for the answers.

The planner feature is great for what’s ahead and helping your students stay organized. Just click the plus sign, enter the information, and choose the group to notify. Notice that you can have a week or month view. This is a great feature to help model to your students proper time management and planning ahead. When you give an assignment from the tab in the group, it will be automatically put in this calendar. Share with all your groups at once, or select a calendar to add an event for one group only. By clicking on the gear, you can even print or export the calendar for that group.
Build your professional learning network, or find and share some ideas, curriculum, or questions from the Discover tool. Connect with communities that support topics in education in which you are interested, or follow publishers for the latest and greatest information. Once you follow a community you will see easy access to it from your homepage under your Communities section. Teaching about something specific soon, search content easily or find teachers in your district you want to follow! Search posts, groups, users, apps or content from the search bar at the top.
