Unit 16 Test • Receptive test Thursday 3/27 • Notebooks due Thursday 3/27 • Calendars due 3/27 • Expressive test due Monday 4/7 • See next slide
Expressive Test • INDIVIDUALLY (no groups!) make a video • You will walk us through directions on how to make your favorite dish • 5-10mins in length • Graded on 5 parameters • Bring your dish the day you watch your video
Unit 16:Describing & Identifying Things C.ShoreGlendora High SchoolSpring 2014
Money #s • Cents • Number range • 1-9 • Location • From forehead • Dollars • Number range • 1-9 • Movement • Swop • @ 10 = swipe (dollars) • Dollars + cents • Do not have to signal cents • Slide to show difference
Fractions • Number range • 1-9 • Palm orientation • Self • Movement • Up -> down
Describing Shapes • Describe shapes • Sizes • From different perspectives • Describe patterns on objects and surfaces • Describe textures of objects • Describe combinations of shapes • Symmetrical • Asymmetrical • Describe lids, pumps, handles, etc
Describing Shapes • Flat objects • Use index finger(s) to trace shape • Objects w/ deepth • Use CL: B, C, claw • Examples • Sphere = DCL: claw • Disk = DCL curved • Cone = DCL B < – > S • Cylinder = DCL C • Cube = DCL B
Sizes • OO • Very small, thin, narrow • MM • Average or medium size • CHA • Large, wide, tall
From different perspectives • Looking up at it • Looking down at it • Looking around it • Looking inside or through it
Describe Patterns on Objects and Surfaces • Weak hand should retain the DCL handshape as reference point • Design can be traced over object w/ dominant hand • Sometimes it can be better to use both hands to sign pattern (on a surface) • Format • Object – pattern • Example • Couch – plaid • How would you sign . . .?? • A pillow w/ one solid side and one striped side
Describe Textures of Objects • Usually signed with BOTH hands after the description of object • Format • Object – texture • Example • Clouds – “soft”
Describe Combinations of Shapes: Symmetrical combinations • Sign base shape then add attachments w/ both hands • Be aware of your use of space – make sure you sign the attachment in the correct location in relation to the base shape Describe cube Describe cylindrical handles on the cube
Describe Combinations of Shapes: Asymmetrical combinations • Sign base of shape • KEEP THE WEAK HAND IN PLACE for spatial reference as you describe attachment Describe cube Keep ND hand in place of cube while D hand describes cylinder
Just some notes • General -> specific • Biggest part -> smallest part • Ground -> top • Least mobile -> most mobile • Emphasize distinguishing features
Defining Something byHow It Works • Definition – how it looks – how it works • Example • Zebo • Know onion (ICL chop) – LCL “glass container” – Onion (put onion in) – LCL (put lid on and twist shut) – LCL (pump to chop) – That one
Describe Something byHow It Is Made • Definition – how it looks – how its made – how it works • Example • Know potato – cook – different – right – what • Mash, Boil, Bake, Fry/cook, #FRY • Know egg – cook – different – right – how – cook – how • Boil, #FRY, ICL “fold,” ICL “turn over,” #POACH, ICL “stir/mix/scrammble)
Activity #1: Recipes • With your partner list the ingredients for each then practice signing • Chef’s salad • Stir fry • Ambrosia • Corn dog • Blintzes
Activity #2:Beat the clock • Teams of 5 • Pick a handshape card from deck • come up with 10 different signs using that handshape • Cannot repeat signs • To score • As soon as 10 signs are picked raise your hand to stop the clock • Write time on board • Move on to next team • Team w/ fastest time wins!
