Describe Patterns on Objects and Surfaces • Weak hand should retain the DCL handshape as reference point • Design can be traced over object w/ dominant hand • Sometimes it can be better to use both hands to sign pattern (on a surface) • Format • Object – pattern • Example • Couch – plaid • How would you sign . . .?? • A pillow w/ one solid side and one striped side

  11. Describe Textures of Objects • Usually signed with BOTH hands after the description of object • Format • Object – texture • Example • Clouds – “soft”

  12. Describe Combinations of Shapes: Symmetrical combinations • Sign base shape then add attachments w/ both hands • Be aware of your use of space – make sure you sign the attachment in the correct location in relation to the base shape Describe cube Describe cylindrical handles on the cube

  18. Activity #1: Recipes • With your partner list the ingredients for each then practice signing • Chef’s salad • Stir fry • Ambrosia • Corn dog • Blintzes

Activity #2:Beat the clock • Teams of 5 • Pick a handshape card from deck • come up with 10 different signs using that handshape • Cannot repeat signs • To score • As soon as 10 signs are picked raise your hand to stop the clock • Write time on board • Move on to next team • Team w/ fastest time wins!
