Functions of the Respiratory System: • Taking in oxygen • Delivering oxygen to the body and cells • & Getting rid of carbon dioxide
Oxygen is what you breathe in. It is necessary for life and to burn nutrients!
The respiratory system warms and cleans the air as it enters the body and moves through the organs.
Major parts and organs: • Nasal passages • Trachea • Lungs
Most important muscle: Diaphragm!
Healthy Respiratory System • Avoid tobacco smoke • Avoid air pollutants • Exercise regularly

Functions: • Keeps body warm/cool • Protects against germs • Prevents water from leaving • Sends messages to the brain
Caring for skin: • Regular washing • Protection from injury and the sun • Getting enough rest • Eating healthy foods • Drinking a lot of water
Avoiding too much sun exposure is especially important!
Bad sunburns during childhood greatly increase your chances of skin cancer as an adult
Skin cancer is the uncontrolled growth of bad cells. It is caused by UV rays from the sun!

If you get sun burned, you should: • Take a cool bath • Moisturize skin with lotion or aloe vera plant • Protect skin from further sun damage if you go outside, cover up • Wear loose clothing
