  1. The Place of Honor “Before his downfall a man’s heart is proud, but humility comes before honor.” Proverbs 18:12

  2. “How can you believe if you accept praise from one another, yet make no effort to obtain the praise that comes from the only God” John 5:44

  3. Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. “Teacher,” they said, “we want you to do for us whatever we ask.” “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked. Mark 10:32-36

  4. They replied, “Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory.” Mark 10:37

  5. “Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.” Mark 10:42-45

  6. “Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:43-45

  7. The Place of Honor Begins at the Bottom, Not the Top

  8. “But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, Friend, move up to a better place. Then you will be honored in the presence of all your fellow guests. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted” Luke 14:10-11

  9. “The people were waiting expectantly and were all wondering in their hearts if John might possibly be the Christ. John answered them all, I baptize you with water. But One more powerful than I will come, the thongs of who’s sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire” Luke 3-15-15

  10. The Place of Honor Begins With Service

  11. “The greatest among you will be your servant. For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” Matthew 23:11-12

  12. The Place of Honor Comes With Many Advantages

  13. “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time." 1 Peter 5:6

  14. God Lives With the Humble

  15. “For this is what the high and lofty One says—he who lives forever, whose name is holy; I live in a high and holy place, but also with him who is contrite and lowly in spirit to revive the spirit of the lowly and to receive the heart of the contrite.” Isaiah 57:15

  16. God Listens to the requests of the Humble

  17. “Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before God when you heard what he spoke against this place and its people, and because you humbled yourself before me and tore your robes, and wept in my presence, I have heard you, declares the Lord.” 2 Chronicles 34:27

  18. The Humble are recipients of More Grace

  19. “But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says, God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” James 4:6

  20. “Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you clothe yourselves with humility toward one another because, God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble” 1 Peter 5:5

  21. He Exalts, Lifts Up, and Promotes the Humble

  22. “For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted Matthew 23:12

  23. “For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted Matthew 23:12 “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.” James 4:10

  24. He Considers the Humble to be Truly Great

  25. “Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:4

  26. It is a Prerequisite for True Riches, Honor, and Fullness of Life
