Scholarship Fund Facts • Started as early as 1986 • Part of operational budget • A student from each of the seven programs is selected to receive $250.00 • Each program director selects a student applicant based on need. • Scholarships presented at annual convention and meeting in Ocean City.
Scholarship Fund Facts Con’t • Fund named in memory of Carrie Lipscomb, a deceased faculty member of the University of the District of Columbia and student advocate. • Currently raising money to increase the amount awarded to students. • All proceeds from stethoscope, organizational license tag and theme tee shirt sales go to a restricted fund that will be used for future scholarships or building an endowment. Our restricted fund currently has a balance of $6000.00.
Highlights • All state affiliates should start some sort of scholarship fund even if it is a small amount. • Building an endowment perpetuates scholarship programs. • Any investment is an investment for our future. • Scholarship recipients become loyal members of the AARC.
