  2. What is the ARS? • The ARS stands for the Armenian Relief Society. • Founded in New York City, NY in 1910 • Was known as the Armenian Red Cross

  3. What is the purpose of the ARS? • World-wide membership, channeling their energies toward supporting the social, educational, health and welfare activities of Armenian communities • Help with food, medicine and clothing in times of war, epidemics or natural disasters, bringing aid to disabled, sick and needy, prisoners of war, orphans and refugees

  4. What does the ARS do? • The ARS remains active by: • Summer camps • Financial support for Armenian schools • Scholarship programs • Youth connect programs • Youth exchange programs • Relief efforts for Armenians around the world

  5. Youth in the ARS • As juniors or seniors, it’s easy to look at the ARS and think the organization is meant just for older people…

  6. Youth in the ARS • The ARS is meant for YOU. • You don’t have to be a TANTEEG to join the ARS! • The beauty of the ARS is that its supporters come from a multitude of backgrounds…

  7. A new perspective • Q: What do young people bring to the table? • A: A fresh set of eyes and new perspective.

  8. A new perspective • Young people see the world in a way that is naïve and untarnished. • What do Armenians need? • More hope, optimism and resolutions to fight for our issues.

  9. What should we work toward? • Armenian youth – especially AYFers – understand the importance of the work of the ARS. • Greater unity between the ARS and AYF!

  10. Ideas for youth • For inspiration, here are a few ideas… • Attend the Youth Connect Program • Contribute to ARS events/programs • MOST IMPORTANTLY…. • EDUCATE YOURSELF!
