1914 • February 21: Turkish boycott of Armenian businesses is declared by the lttihadists. • March 14: Vice Governor of Seghart is appointed Gov-General of Bitlis Province. • July 28:Negotiations started between Turkish Government and German imperial Government. • August 1: Beginning of WWI • August 2: Treaty of alliance signed between Turkey and Germany • August 8: Censorship of all telegraphic communications is announced by Gov • August 18: 1,080 shops owned by Armenians are burned in Diyarbekir.
August 22: Armenian male population between ages 20 and 45 is conscripted by Government. • September 11: Armenians advised to stay calm in face of provocation. • September 27: Armenians demanded to turn in weapons including knives. • September 30: Government distributes arms to Muslim residents. • October 1: All postal services closed. • October 10: Armenians called to a meeting and are arrested. • October 17: “Chetes” begin looting, violating women and children, and large-scale murders • November 19: Mass executions of Armenian Soldiers takes place. • November 23: Travel equipment confiscated • December 6: Armenians put to use as porters of army supplies.
1915 • January 1: Vice Gov. of Gavar district is ordered to kill Armenian Soldiers stationed in his District. • January 16: Turkish army is totally defeated and almost destroyed. • February 21: Chetes attack the village of Purk by looting, raping, and murdering Armenians. • March 3: Ittihad Central Committee announces decision to exterminate Armenians. • March 30: Mass tortures and beatings are inflicted on Armenians of Chomaklu. • April 8: Monastery of Zeitun is burned by the Turks. • April 18: Until end of April, 32,000 more Armenians slain in Van province. • May 10: 950 prominent Armenians are arrested on orders from Dr. Reshid, the Gov-General of Diyarbekir • May 27: 2,000 Armenians deported from Marash.
June 13: All domestic animals belonging to Armenians are ordered to be seized. • June 24: Armenian notables are sent in a boat (bound tightly together) and are thrown into the Black Sea. • July 7: Male members of 800 Armenian families are murdered. • July 28: Armenians begin to be deported from Aintab, Kilis, Adiaman • August 1: 500 Armenians are tortured in prisons of Adabazar. • August 19: report of 500,00 Armenians murdered in Turkey is given by lord Bryce. • August 23: a second massacre of Armenians is organized in Urfa. • September 2: 4,750 Armenians murdered in Jezire • October 7: Number of deported Armenians still living is 360,00 minimum. The Number reported dead is 800,00 minimum. The U.S. sends $75,000 for relief of deportees.
October 12: Orders are issued forbidding marriage with Armenian Women. October 15: 6,000 Turkish soldiers stage final attack on Armenians in Urfa December 4: 10,000 Armenian bachelors are deported from city of Constantinople up to this date December 6: A telegram instructs that no Armenians are to be left alive in eastern provinces. 1915 cont’d
