I am Interested in a Careerin Social Work Careers in Social Work: • Long Term Care & Residential Services (Nursing Home, Rehab., MR/DD) • Mental Health Services (Inpatient, Outpatient, Partial Hospitalization) • Medical Social Work (Inpatient, Outpatient, Home Health) • Hospice (End of Life Care/Grief Management) • Corrections (Juvenile or Adult Justice System) • Case Management • Community Services (Adult/Child Protective Services, Passport, Community Mental Health)

Educational Requirements for Careers in Social Work • Bachelor’s in Social Work (BSW) • The State of Ohio requires that individuals working as Social Workers must have a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, and carry a license to practice Social Work (LSW). There are many careers available to those having a Bachelor’s in Social Work. • Master’s in Social Work (MSW) • An individual carrying a Master’s in Social Work (MSW) has more opportunities in clinical and administrative settings. Many health care organizations prefer to hire someone with a MSW, because that individual is eligible to carry a specialized licensure, called LISW (Licensed Independent Social Worker). This special license allows the individual to diagnose a patient and also has advantages with insurance reimbursement, making the LISW more financially viable to a health care organization.

  6. Educational Requirements for Careers in Counseling • Many different counseling professions may require specific credentials, in addition to a college degree. It is important to investigate whether there is additional certification needed in the profession that you pursue. • For instance, in order to work in many healthcare settings, a Master’s Degree in Counseling must also have the following credentials- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC). • To work as a Vocational Evaluator, one may need to have a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Rehab Counseling, Community Counseling, or Vocational Evaluation, but may carry a Certified Vocational Evaluator (CVE) or Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) certificate.

I am Interested in a Career Working as a Psychologist Careers as a Psychologist: (Educational Requirement- Ph.D.) • Diagnostic Testing and Evaluation • Consultant • Administrator in a Healthcare Setting • Counseling Although there aren’t many career opportunities locally for Psychologists, those individuals attracted to the field are typically interested in research, performing testing, or are high achievers with their sights set on a healthcare administrative position.
