The Walk of Heroes. This event will raise funds for the completion of the Veterans’ Memorial Garden as well as honoring the many heroes in our lives. Tuesday November 11, 2014 6 AM – 6 PM At Papermakers Stadium.

  1. The Walk of Heroes • This event will raise funds for the completion of the Veterans’ Memorial Garden as well as honoring the many heroes in our lives. • Tuesday November 11, 2014 • 6 AM – 6 PM • At Papermakers Stadium

  2. The following biographies are of Spring Grove alumni who have died in the line of service to community or country.We begin with WWII and move forward in time.Each hero will be remembered on the Spring Grove Veterans’ Memorial.

  3. Pvt. Allen J. Beck Jr. • Private, U.S. Army • Enlisted during his junior year of high school • Killed in action on January 4, 1945 in the Battle of the Bulge, Devante, Belgium, WWII • Honorary member of the Spring Grove class of 1944

  4. Pfc. Donald R. Gise • Private First Class, U.S. Army • Killed in action on October 4, 1968 in Long An, Vietnam. • Graduated from Spring Grove Area High School class of 1960

  5. Spc. Tyrone G. Thoman • Specialist 4th Class, U.S. Army • Killed in action March 12, 1969, in Hua Nghia, Vietnam. • Graduated from Spring Grove Area High School class of 1967.

  6. Cpl. Richard E. Brenneman • Corporal, U.S. Marine Corps • Killed in action March 26, 1969 in Quang Tri, Vietnam. • Enlisted during 9th grade; would have graduated with the Spring Grove class of 1968.

  7. Lance Cpl. Paul A. Lecrone • Lance Corporal, U.S. Marine Corps • Killed in action April 9, 1970 in Quang Nam, Vietnam. • Graduated from Spring Grove Area High School class of 1967

  8. Spc. Michael A. Lauchman Specialist 4th Class, U.S. Army Killed in action July 27, 1970 in Phong Dinh, Vietnam. Grew up in Menges Mills Enlisted while in high school; would have graduated in the Spring Grove class 1969

  9. Cpl. Luke Runyan • Corporal, U.S. Army, 4thStryker Brigade Combat Team. • Killed in action February 17, 2008 in Baquabah, Iraq. • Spring Grove Area High School class of 2004.

  10. Officer David Tome • Officer for the Northern York County Regional police for 5 ½ years. • Killed in the line of duty on October 21, 2008. • Spring Grove Area High School class of 1996.

  11. Spc. Cameron Stambaugh • Specialist, U.S. Army • Member of the 93rd Military Police, US Army, Fort Bliss, Texas. • Killed in action July 8, 2012 in Maidan Shahr, Afghanistan. • Spring Grove Area High School class of 2010.

  12. The Walk of Heroes will raise funds for and awareness of the Veterans’ Memorial Garden. Please consider supporting this project.

  13. Groundbreaking Ceremony November 2012 Family members of David Tome, Luke Runyan and Cameron Stambaugh joined the Environmental 2 students for the ceremony.

  14. Environmental 2 students and Mr. Dietrich welcome visitors and introduce the project at the ceremony.

  15. Dedication with the Marching Band

  16. Environmental 2 students map out and excavate the footprint of the structure.

  17. Cameron’s mother, Pam Smith, shares memories of Cameron with Environmental 2 students.

  18. Pine trees and Memorial design services donated by Spring Grove alumnus Doug Rohrbaugh.

  19. York Vo-Tech masonry students completed the foundation and brick wall in the front of the Memorial.

  20. Environmental 2 students were busy throughout the year raising money for and awareness of this Memorial.

  21. Framing of the rear wall began in early September. It will be etched with the names and insignia of those lost in service.

  22. We have accomplished a lot but still have work to do. Please consider joining us at the Walk of Heroes on November 11 at Papermakers Stadium.
