  1. The Basics and Important Postulates of Geometry

  2. POSTULATE No. 1 You can only draw one line between two points. You will not be able to draw a second line through points A and B.

  3. EXAMPLE:

  4. POSTULATE No. 2:A line has infinitepoints.

  5. POSTULATE No. 3: Oneplanecontainsinfinitepoints.

  6. EXAMPLE:

  7. POSTULATE No. 4:Two lines can instersect at ONLY one point. S is the only intersection of and in the figure below.

  8. EXAMPLE:

  9. POSTULATE No. 5:When two planes intersect, their intersection is a line.

  10. EXAMPLE:

  11. POSTULATE NO. 6:Infinite lines pass by a point.

  12. Example:

  13. POSTULATE No. 7: Infinite planes passby a line.

  14. Example:

  15. POSTULATE No. 8: Three planes intersect in a point.

  16. POSTULATE No. 9: Threepointsthat are notcolinealform a plane. THREE POINTS THAT ARE NOT COLINEAR ARE ALWAYS COPLANEAR. IF THREE POINTS ARE NOT COLINEAR THEN THERE ONLY EXIST ONE PLANE THAT CONTAINS THEM.

  17. EXAMPLE : 3 POINTS THAT ARE NOT COLINEAR FORM A PLANE.

  18. MORE EXAMPLES:

  19. POSTULATE 10:Twolinesthatintersectform a plane. • Twolinesthatintersect are alwayscoplanear. • Iftwolinesintersectthereonlyexistoneplanecontainingthem.

  20. EXAMPLE:

  21. POSTULATE 11: A line and a pointoutsideform a plane. How?

  22. 1. Wechooseone new pointonthe line.

  23. 2. Wedraw a line acrossbothpoints.

  24. 3. TWO LINES THAT INTERSECT FORM A PLANE.

  25. PLEASE IDENTIFY SITUATIONS IN WHICH YOU RECOGNIZE THE GEOMETRY POSTULATES AND ON A CARDBOARD, DO A COLLAGE WITH MAGAZINE PICTURES OF THESE SITUATIONS, BY CHOOSING EXAMPLES OF AT LEAST 5 POSTULATES.
