1 Timothy 3:16 – And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. Mystery of godliness revealed A) God was manifest in the flesh • Through Virgin birth Incarnation > Embody in flesh • God in the Person of Jesus Christ came to dwell with man at the Incarnation
Isaiah 7:14 – Therefore the LORD himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. (ESV) Matthew 1:22 - All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: Matthew 1:23 - “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). (ESV)
Matthew 1:18- Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.V19- And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. • V20- But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. • V21- She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus,for he will save his people from their sins.”
The name JESUS is a Prophetic name as Messiah • Matthew 2:1- Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, • V2- saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” • V3- When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; • V4- and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born.
Christ- the Anointed One Matthew 2:5- They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet: Matthew 2:6- “‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’”
Micah 5:2- “BethlehemEphrathah, you are too little to be among the family groups of Judah. But from you One will come who will rule for Me in Israel. His coming was planned long ago, from the beginning.” (NLV) Isaiah 9:6- For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be uponhis shoulder, and his name shall be calledWonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.(ESV)
Jesus assumed flesh, bones, and blood merely for the Incarnation. Jesus as God He is Eternal but to be our REDEEMER it was necessary that He become the partaker of humanity.
Galatians 4:4- But when [in God’s plan] the proper time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the [regulations of the] Law, V5- so that He might redeem and liberate those who were under the Law, that we [who believe] might be adopted as sons [as God’s children with all rights as fully grown members of a family]. V6- And because you [really] are [His] sons, God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying out, "Abba! Father!” (AMP)
John 3:16- “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Himshould not perish but have eternal life.(ESV) John 1:12 - But to all who believed Him and accepted Him, he gave the right to become children of God.(NLT)
Romans 10:9- Because if you acknowledgeandconfess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in your heart believe (adhere to, trust in, and rely on the truth) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. • V10- For with the heart a person believes (adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Christ) and so is justified (declared righteous, acceptable to God), and with the mouth he confesses (declares openly and speaks out freely his faith)and confirms [his] salvation.(AMPC)
1 John 4:2- By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses thatJesus Christ has come in the fleshis from God, V3- and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already. 2 John 2:7- For many deceivers have gone out into the world,those who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist.(ESV)
B) Justified in the Spirit Matthew 3:13 – Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. V14- John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” V15- But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. V16- And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; V17- and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
C) Seen of angels • the blessed spirits, the inhabitants of heaven • Who declared his conception Luke 1:32- He will be great (eminent) and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to Him the throne of His forefather David, V33- And He will reign over the house of Jacob throughout the ages; and of His reign there will be no end.
Sang and glorified God when He was born Luke 2:10- But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people. V11- For to you is born this day in the town of David a Savior, Who is Christ (the Messiah) the Lord! (AMPC)
Ministered to him when he was tempted Matthew 4:11-Then the devil departed from Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him. (AMPC)
Declared his resurrection Matthew 28:1- The day after the Sabbath day was the first day of the week. That day at dawn Mary Magdalene and the other woman named Mary went to look at the tomb. V2-Suddenly an angel of the Lord came from the sky, and there was a huge earthquake. The angel went to the tomb and rolled the stone away from the entrance. Then he sat on top of the stone. V3-The angel was shining as bright as lightning. His clothes were as white as snow. V4-The soldiers guarding the tomb were very afraid of the angel. They shook with fear and then became like dead men.
V5-The angel said to the women, “Don’t be afraid. I know you are looking for Jesus, the one who was killed on the cross. V6-But he is not here. He has risen from death, as he said he would. Come and see the place where his body was. V7- And go quickly and tell his followers, ‘Jesus has risen from death. He is going into Galilee and will be there before you. You will see him there.’” Then the angel said, “Now I have told you.” (ERV)
Attended his ascension Acts 1:10- And while they were gazing into heaven as He went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes.(ESV)
D) Preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world Luke 24:49- And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you.But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”(ESV) Acts 1:8- But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (ESV)
Acts 2:2-And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. V3- And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and restedon each one of them. V4- And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.(ESV)
Acts 2:14- But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them: “Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be explained to you; listen closely and pay attention to what I have to say.(AMP) Acts 2:36-Therefore let all the house of Israel recognize beyond all doubt that God has made Him both Lord and Christ (Messiah, Anointed)—this Jesus whom you crucified.”
Acts 2:37- Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart [with remorse and anxiety], and they said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what are we to do?” V38- And Peter said to them, “Repent [change your old way of thinking, turn from your sinful ways, accept and follow Jesus as the Messiah] and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ because of the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. V39- For the promise [of the Holy Spirit] is for you and your children and for all who are far away [including the Gentiles], as many as the Lord our God calls to Himself.” (AMP)
Acts 2:41- So then, those who accepted his message were baptized; and on that day about 3,000 souls were added[to the body of believers]. (AMP)
E) Received up into glory Mark 16:19- So then, when the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. (AMP) Luke 24:50-Then He led them out as far as Bethany, and lifted up His hands and blessed them. V51-While He was blessing them, He left them and was taken up into heaven.(AMP)
Acts 7:55- But he (Stephen), full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. Acts 7:56- And he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” (ESV)
Conclusion: Christ’s life and accomplishments. It’s all fits with what we know of the man, Jesus Christ. “God incarnate,”“God and Man united,” “very God and very man,” testifies that Christ was a man, begotten by the Father, and He died for our sins, He was buried and on the third day He was raised from the dead and He was taken up into glory.
1 Corinthians 15:1- Now I would remind you, brothers,of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, V2- and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. V3-For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, V4- that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures(ESV)
1 Corinthians 2:1-When I came to you, brothers and sisters, I did not come with superior eloquence or wisdom as I proclaimed the testimony of God. V2- For I decided to be concerned about nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified. V3-And I was with you in weakness and in fear and with much trembling. V4- My conversation and my preaching were not with persuasive words of wisdom, but with a demonstration of the Spirit and of power, V5-so that your faith would not be based on human wisdom but on the power of God.(NET)
