Kinder Camp will continue the first three days and students will be divided into groups and will rotate through all teacher. • The teachers will get to know all the students through classroom observations, activities and assessments. • We believe this will help us provide the best placement and teacher fit. • Teachers will be assigned by the end of Friday, August 17, 2018. • Students will start on Monday, August 20, 2018 with their assigned homeroom teacher. • A letter will go home letting you know who your child’s kinder teacher is on Friday, August 17, 2018. • You will be allowed to walk your student to class on Monday if you wish.

Opening Activities (Lunch count, Morning work, Journals, Calendar Math, Oral Language skills) • Language Arts Block (Phonics, Vocabulary, Writing, and Reading) • Mathematics Block (Hands-on activities and instruction) • Centers/Workstations (Small group instruction, Individualized student support, Enrichment and Individualized instructional time) • Lunch (Good nutrition, health, and daily focus on table manners) • Recess (Fine and gross motor skill development) • Story time (Listening to stories and music/ Book and print awareness activities) • Social Studies/Science (Discovery time/ SS and Science Units) • PE/Art/Music/Computers • Daily Reflections (Review concepts/skills learned today)

  12. 2018 – 2019 La Porte Independent School District Elementary Dress Code Specific Basic Dress Code Guidelines for all PK – 5th Grade Students Clothing Basics: • Clean, non-distracting, appropriate fit and in good repair • All students must wear appropriate under garments • The following are prohibited on clothing: • Lewd, offensive, vulgar, or obscene signs or gestures • Tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs, weapons, speech or graphics reasonably likely to incite violence, satanic symbols, skulls, crossbones, blood or death • Evidence of membership or affiliation in any gang, unauthorized club or organization Accessories: • Backpacks, satchels and briefcases must be clear, transparent or mesh • Personal bags including purses, hip bags, cross-bodies in excess of 8” x 10” shall be prohibited • Personal or school-issued equipment bags such as, but not limited to athletic equipment bags, musical instruments, art portfolios are to be stored in designated areas. These designated areas include athletic locker rooms, fine arts facilities and other areas as specified by campus administration. • Lunch kits in excess of 9” x 10” shall be stored in a designated area specified by campus administration • No chains (i.e. billfold chains and chains on pants) • No sunglasses, hats, bandanas, gloves or head/hand coverings indoors • Pierced jewelry should not distract from the learning environment • Tattoos and other drawings on the skin must be covered Slacks/Jeans/Pants/Shorts: • Any color (designs included) that does not violate the clothing basics • Appropriately sized and worn at the natural waistline • No holes, tears, or rips in pants, including those purchased with fashion tears that expose skin • Shorts must be mid-thigh length or longer

Dresses/Jumpers/Skirts/Skorts: • Any color (designs included) • Must be mid-thigh length or longer • Dresses • Collars not required • No strapless, backless, or spaghetti straps • Shoulder straps must be shoulder width  Shirts: • Any color or pattern that does not violate clothing basics • Low cut, sheer or revealing tops are not permitted • Shirts must not expose undergarments or bare the midriff  Shoes: • Any color • Closed toe and heel (no sandals, flip-flops, or clogs, cleats or skate shoes) • Rubber soles Socks/Hosiery: • Worn at all times • Leggings/tights/yoga pants must be worn as hosiery under skirts, tunics, dresses (midthigh or longer)  Coats/Hoodies/Sweaters/Jackets/Vests/Sweatshirts: • Any color or design that does not violate clothing basics • May not be used to cover garments that would otherwise be a dress code violation • Full-length or oversized outerwear apparel, such as those commonly referred to as trench coats, dusters & like garments, are prohibited • Hoods may not be worn inside the building at any time Hair: • Clean, neatly groomed, and non-distracting • Any form of dress or appearance determined by the principal to be disruptive to the learning environment will be prohibited.

  14. Student Handbook • Please take time to read the student handbook. It is a great idea to read it as a family so everyone is informed and prepare for the new school year. New Cafeteria Procedures • Parents desiring to dine with their students should follow the assigned day of the week designated for students with the last name beginning with: • Tuesday: A – I • Wednesday: J – R • Thursday: S – Z • A maximum of 3 guests will be allowed to dine with the student. • No campus lunch visitors will be allowed during the first three weeks of the school year and on designated state and district assessment days. • Parents will not be allowed to dine with students for breakfast Outside Food or Drinks • In an effort to maintain a safe and secure learning environment, parents/guardians will not be allowed to deliver any outside food during the instructional day, to include lunches or snacks. In the event that the student has left his/her lunch at home, sack lunches and lunch kits may be delivered by 9:00 a.m. to the front office No Lunch Visitors • In order to help our students, learn the cafeteria routines and procedures, the HRE cafeteria is closed to lunchtime visitors until September 11th. Please check the monthly newsletter for other dates on which the cafeteria will be closed to visitors to help maintain building security (ie: benchmark testing days, STAAR testing days, etc.).

Make sure your child gets plenty of rest- It is a great idea to establish a school routine one week before school starts (going to bed early and waking up early). • Serve nutritious and unhurried meals. • Encourage your child to be polite and to state feelings instead of acting them out. • Provide numerous opportunities for experiences with books.
