Question 1: How do we define the personality traits of a hero? • A hero is someone who can perform at his prime when they really need to. A hero is someone who stops and helps people that really need it. A hero is someone that will go out of their way to make sure another person is happy and okay. A hero is someone who will help someone up who is down. • Tom Brady performs great on the football field and off the field. He is a big supporter and member of the charity program Best Buddies. How does the setting affect how a hero performs? • A hero can perform at his prime at any setting.
Question 3: How does a hero reflect his/her particular culture and society? • He plays for a American team that is called the Patriots.
Question 4: How does a hero represent his/her time period and geographical area? • Tom would find the fastest kid around and challenge him to a foot race. Not gifted with much natural speed, he was blown away time and again. Yet Tom never gave up, analyzing his performance after each loss and thinking of things he could do to get better. Question 5: How do various cultures reward or recognize their heroes? • They reward him by celebrating and attending his games. • They put posters and wear his jerseys around to show him off.
Question 6: How did his childhood effect him in his life today? • Tom’s three older sisters—Maureen, Julie, and Nancy—were all athletic. He followed in their footsteps. • That play sent San Francisco to its first Super Bowl—and permanently shifted the balance of power in pro football. Question 7: Who were important people in his life that helped him achieve his goal as a NFL athlete? • Tony Martinez was a huge mentor in Tom Brady’s life. Tom met Tony when he was only 13 years old. He went to all of Tony’s training camps because he wanted Tony to teach him how to be a better quarterback and a better person. Tom still looks to Martinez for guidance in his career today. Question 9: Did you play any other sports as a child? • He collected baseball cards by the boxful, played golf with his dad on Sunday mornings, served as an altar boy in the local parish and demonstrated his arm strength from the back of his mother's Volkswagen van, flinging newspapers to the neatly manicured lawns in this hilly suburb of San Francisco. Most of the people in Brady's life thought his best sport was baseball, but he practically willed himself into a football career. Even now, 13 years after he graduated from Junipero Serra High School, an all-boys Catholic school shoe-horned into one of San Mateo's upper middle-class neighborhoods, that is how they remember their Tommy.
