Helping our neighborhood By: Yu-Jin Cho Ms Hasegawa, F3a Hahaione Elementary School We went to many field trips to create this project and to learn about the earth. One of our parent volunteers, Ms Joon took pictures for us and made us a classroom website. That's when this project came to mind! Everyone was very excited to make this project. I hope you enjoy our powerpoint!! Thank you Ms. Joon for helping with our projects!
Creatures in the Ogo • One of our activities at HIMB was finding creatures that are in the Gorilla Ogo. It is a fun job because you never know what you might find like digging for treasure. Except that the treasure is small sea creatures. • Our class found some brittle stars and a noudlebrak. A brittle star is like a star fish but the brittle star has thin arms and legs and the arms and legs are spiny. • But the noudlebrak is not what you see in everyday life. It is like a slug because it has a wormy body and is pink and soft. • The noudlebrak is not hard to find on the Ogo, since the Ogo is green and the noudlebrak is pink. But is found on/in the Ogo. While the brittle stars are hard to find but it is usually found on the Ogo. • Those were the creatures our class found.
Whats gonna be next? “If we helped the environment would it make a difference? If we didn't would it worsen?” Those were the running back and forth in my head on our NOAA field trips. I thought and thought until I got it. My answer is the environment will change if everybody helps because if only one helps not much happens. But if we do it together we can accomplish helping the environment by planting tees and plants. But if we didn't help at all, nothing will improve and everything will worsen and the air will be black and dusty and there won't and there won't be much trees so we won't be able to breathe very well. That is what I think is going to be next step for the environment.
Healthy Coral Reefs • This is a picture of a healthy coral reef. You can tell because the coral is brightly colored and because there are many fish. • Today, we don't see many of this kind. We don't see it much because of global warming, litter, and bleaching. Also because these reefs are very sensitive. You touch it, it dies. Creepy, right? • Instead of these beautiful coral reefs we have white coral, few fish, and really dirty water in most reefs. • This is what happens with carelessness.
Reflection • Doing this program was very fun and exciting because it was a new experience for me. I enjoyed it very very much. • Thank you Ms Hasegawa! • Sincerely • Yu-Jin
